Ashur Collective's illustrator and co-founder is also black. They produced their first graphic novel last year. It actually was so good it was funded by a university:

"Blood Money: The Road To Detroit"

I respect the Article and its point of view, but I don't think it's on black geeks shoulders to lift black SciFi/ comics to the mountain top, the mainstream machine at all levels/ genres is overwhelming! I know I need to check more for our work in science fiction, but we "black nerds" are a minority in our own community as is! I make hip hop music myself(at a beginner level) and its even more obscure than any comic or black scifi project, what we need to do is support each other at the artistic level, keeping our principles, messages, and goals 100% , while including everyone. You have to be a deep thinker and be critical of a lot of stuff before you can realize you gotta litce life as you do to survive, while knowing you HAVE a duty to support work within our community, a positive movement, unlike the ones the same mainstream beasts have pushing is needed in my opinion, Salute again and I know I'll be doing my homework !
